East Usambara Mountains · Tanzania
A private house above the clouds, on the edge of the Nilo Forest
Two bedrooms, a 50 m² terrace at 1,050 m altitude and no other guests. Rainforest walks, night walks, birding and a working spice farm, right at the boundary of the Nilo Nature Forest Reserve.
Why Nilo
A rainforest that receives almost no visitors
The Eastern Arc Mountains are one of the world's biodiversity hotspots. The Nilo Nature Forest Reserve in the East Usambara holds a high proportion of Usambara endemic birds, amphibians, reptiles and plants. From the lodge you reach the forest on foot.

- Bed and breakfast, half board or full board; water and soft drinks included
- Forest walks with a licensed Tanzania Forest Services (TFS) guide
- Working spice farm on the property: cardamom, pepper, vanilla, cloves, cinnamon

Main house of 90 m² with king bedroom, open-air bathroom facing the forest, and a separate annex with its own terrace. House rates from USD 200 per night.

Activities
Guided forest hikes, night walks for amphibians and chameleons, birding with a specialist guide, and a day trip to Amani Nature Reserve.

For Tour Operators
A 2 to 3 night Usambara module between safari and Zanzibar, or a full birding week. Net rates, fact sheet and inspection visits.
Location
Kazita, Misalai, near Amani
The lodge sits in the Muheza District of the Tanga Region, on the boundary of the Nilo Nature Forest Reserve. The drive from Muheza takes around 1 h 45 min on an unpaved track. We organise the 4×4 transfer with a driver.
Tanga, with its airport and the connection to Zanzibar, is the nearest town. Nilo works well as a quiet stop between a northern safari and the coast.
